The Good Works program is designed to help our senior clients maintain their independence and stay in their homes. In addition to our regular emergency services programs (food, clothing, etc…) the Good Works Program offers the following expanded services geared towards the special needs of seniors:
Funds are provided to assist eligible seniors with their financial obligations and needs. While NICA will consider any reasonable financial request from a senior, the following represent typical requests NICA has filled in the past:
- Utility bills
- Medical supplies
- Space Heater
- Hygiene Items
Senior Supplemental Groceries
While NICA provides food for all qualifying individuals through its food pantry, seniors taking advantage of the Good Works Program receive monthly supplemental groceries that last for one or two weeks. For seniors who are able to visit NICA, food is picked up from the food pantry, but NICA also offers home delivered groceries for seniors with transportation and mobility issues.
God’s Hands Home Repairs
Seniors often struggle with home repairs due to lack of mobility to repair their own homes, and/or insufficient income to pay others to perform home repair services. The God’s Hands Home Repair Program offers seniors financial assistance, or a the services of a handyman to perform much needed home repairs.
NICA offers comprehensive case management, along with application assistance, home visits, and monthly reassurance phone calls, to reach out to seniors who are in need. NICA also advocates for seniors because it is important that their voices be heard in the community.
